With reference to my Despatch No 44 Commercial,
of the 8th instant, on the subject of the China Commercial
StJamship Company's Clain, I have the honour to inform you
that I have now received a reply to my Note to the Mexican
Government, which was dated the 7th instant, and a copy of
which was unclosed in my above mentioned Despatch.
Señor de la Barra, the Minister for Foreign Af-
fairs, informs me that he is personally studying the ques❤
tion, and will have great pleasure in giving me his opinion
on the same as soon as he has arrived at a conclusion.
